Answers in Genesis: Creation


“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” — Genesis 1:1 (NKJV)


This simple yet powerful verse sets the foundation for everything we believe.


This week at Champions Assembly, we kicked off our new sermon series, “Answers in Genesis”, by diving into the very first story of the Bible—Creation. But this isn’t just about how things began. It’s about why it matters today.


Why Creation Matters


The question of creation isn’t just a scientific or philosophical debate—it’s ultimately about the authority of Scripture. As highlighted in the message, the controversy surrounding creation is really a question of whether we can trust God’s Word from the very first verse. 


If Genesis is not true history, then where do we begin to draw the line?


But if it is true—if it is reliable, historical, and intentional—then it becomes the foundation for everything else in the Bible.


What is Biblical Creation


Biblical creation is not vague or symbolic—it is clear and direct. As outlined in the message:


* Creation was by the direct action of the Creator

* Creation took place in the beginning and was finished

* Creation was not spread over millions of years

* Creation was spoken into existence by the Word of God 


From the very start, Scripture presents a God who creates with purpose, power, and authority.


A God of Order and Purpose


Genesis 1 walks us through the six days of creation—light, sky, land, stars, living creatures, and finally mankind. Each day builds intentionally on the last, showing design, order, and completion. 


And at the pinnacle of creation, God made humanity in His image.


That means something powerful for each of us:

You are not random.

You are not an accident.

You were created with purpose and intention.


More Than a Story—It’s History


One of the key themes from the message is that Genesis is not just a collection of stories—it is a historical record.


Just as we trust the Gospels and the Book of Acts as history, Genesis should be read the same way. It records real events that form the basis of our understanding of humanity, the world, and God’s plan.


In fact, the message pointed out that the Bible provides detailed genealogies and timelines, reinforcing that these events are meant to be understood as real history—not myth or allegory.


Faith and the Big Questions


The sermon also addressed some of the biggest questions people wrestle with today:


* How old is the earth?

* Where did life come from?

* Can science and Scripture agree?


Different views exist—from naturalistic evolution to various forms of creationism—but the message emphasized that a literal, biblical understanding of creation remains a strong and defensible position. 


Even in a world full of changing ideas and new theories, God’s Word remains constant.


Truth That Still Stands


Despite all the advances in modern science, the central truth of Scripture has not changed.


God is Creator.

His Word is intentional.

And His truth is trustworthy.


As the final thought of the message reminds us:


> Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
